Sim Segal
With more than 20 years of experience, Sim has a range of expertise, including ERM, capital management, Sarbanes-Oxley, value-based management and stochastic retail financial planning. As the U.S. Leader of ERM Services with Watson Wyatt Insurance & Financial Services in the New York office, he consults to companies in all sectors, including insurance, banking and non-financial services.
Sim’s experience includes five years at Deloitte Consulting, where he co-led their ERM practice for insurance companies in the U.S., and led the development of their insurance ERM point-of-view and modeling approach and tools. His experience also includes 16 years at MetLife, where he was a key player in the first successful implementation of economic capital by a U.S. insurer, assisting in its integration into key company processes, including strategic planning, capital planning and pricing. Sim also led MetLife’s IPO eligibility team and helped establish a corporate reinsurance unit.
Sim is a frequent speaker at professional conferences and has published numerous articles in industry publications. He currently serves as a member of Society of Actuaries (SOA) Board of Directors, vice chair of SOA Leadership Development Committee, a member of 2009 ERM Symposium Planning Committee, a member of Actuarial Society of Greater New York (ASNY) Continuing Education Committee and editor of Risk Management. Sim has previously served as president of ASNY, chairman of SOA Management & Personal Development Section and a Lead Actuary in Actuarial Foundation’s Advancing Student Achievement program.
Sim graduated summa cum laude from Wayne State University, with a B.A. in mathematics. He is a Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) and a member of American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He has also served as SOA faculty for the CERA Experienced Practitioner Pathway (EPP) qualifying seminar.
